It's difficult to classify these paintings into "one" category – they are an amalgam of the many ways in which I work at once — recto-verso, stained thrift material, overpainted found material, stitched with dyed and sewing-machine-drawn domestic materials. Some of these paintings are experiments with textiles: folded, double and triple folded, dyed and bleached and run through the washing machine; or sewn together, painted-into, then ripped apart to reveal what marks have been left behind. Others are bleed studies to reveal the porousness of my paint mixes against my found textiles.
The largest of the group are Sacred(s); In memory of my feelings (after John Ashbery), and American Spreads (after Robert Rauschenberg), which are all roughly six feet by 10 feet or more, give or take, sewn together using remnants of my paintings, domestic materials from thrift stores, etc.
My most recent painting is The Clockwork, which is still in progress, and will eventually cover the walls of my studio.
